Yeah, that's really it. I leave for Entebbe Airport in Uganda in TEN days. But, let me back up a bit and give some clarification to those who haven't heard the story yet.
Starting college last year, I knew there were two things I wanted to accomplish during my four years at school: a nursing degree and a study abroad experience. I was not sure where I wanted to travel, but thanks to my dear second family, the Phillips, I knew I wanted to go somewhere where I could have an adventure. My mom actually found out about Uganda Studies Program while scrolling through her Facebook feed one day. She sent me the info, most likely completely expecting me to turn my nose up at the idea of traveling to Africa for my study abroad experience. But, here we are. There were quite a few hoops to jump through at my home campus, University of Northern Colorado, but once I got the all clear I knew it was meant to be! Uganda Christian University (UCU) and Mukono, Uganda, here I come....
I will be leaving on this January 1st and arriving back to Denver on May 14th. I have been accepted into the Global Health program, where I will have the opportunity to visit various hospitals and clinics in the area. I will also be staying after the semester to observe the Mango Project and understand more about nutrition education. During the duration of my stay, I will be living with a host family and learning (and experiencing!) as much as the culture as I possibly can. I am incredibly excited to see what adventures the next few months bring me and cannot wait for these ten days to fly by.
If you are looking to reach me during my time abroad, I will be checking emails regularly (velie.emma@gmail.com). Thank you for your support and prayers for my travels there! I wish you all a very Merry Christmas!
